Wayne Smith

Composite Engineering Team Leader

Wayne Smith has a Bachelor of Engineering (1st Class Hons.) from the University of Canterbury. Since 1987, he has been involved in the construction of many vessels, both motor and sail. He worked initially as a design engineer with High Modulus, then worked for Epiglass during their association with SP Systems, and since 1993 in the name of his own company, Panalam Technologies Limited.

Wayne’s notable projects include work with America’s Cup campaigns (1995 and 2000 - Team New Zealand and 2003 – One World Challenge), many well-known racing yachts and powerboats, as well as various composite design projects for leading mast builders and the building of composite appendages for high speed foiled craft. His experience also includes development of structure and production methods for a Fibre Composite Bus and Composite Design for the building and chemical/process industries.
