Engine development consultant

Originally from Auckland in New Zealand, John is a partner/owner of the well known UK based engine builder-tuning company, Nicholson-McLaren. At the start of 1973, he went into partnership with the McLaren Formula One Team to prepare Cosworth DFV engines for the team. The relationship resulted in World Championship success for Emerson Fittipaldi in 1974 and James Hunt in 1976.

At the end of 1980 Nicholson-McLaren became independent of the new McLaren International and, as the Cosworth DFV faded from Formula One, Nicholson McLaren turned its attention to preparing engines for a range of other single seater and sports car racing competitions, as well as hillclimbs and historic racing, developing associations with a number of teams and enjoying a number of championship successes. Nicholson McLaren is now based in Wokingham, England and its workload includes the development of engines for the use of alternative fuels.
